In May, Italian carrots reach their peak harvest. This year the climatic conditions favored the production of fresh, sweet and vitamin-rich carrots, ready to be distributed on both the national and international markets. Carrots are particularly appreciated for their crunchiness and the absence of chemical residues. Ideal both for fresh consumption and for transformation into juices and purees, these carrots are an example of the commitment to quality that distinguishes Italian producers, who focus on sustainable and soil-nutritious methods.

The export of Italian fruit and vegetables to Europe saw significant growth in the first months of 2023, with an increase of 9.5% in value compared to the previous year, reaching 2.3 billion euros for the period from January in May. This growth has been aided by initiatives such as the “I Love Fruit & Veg from Europe” program, supported by the European Commission and Italian organizations. The main markets for Italian fruit and vegetables were Germany, France and Austria. In particular, some horticultural products such as rocket, carrots, spinach, courgettes and radishes have enjoyed an increase in demand, helping to consolidate Italy's position as one of the largest exporters of fruit and vegetables in the EU.
In terms of specific categories, exports of vegetables and legumes recorded growth of 4.2% in volume and 14.3% in value in the first quarter of 2023. Furthermore, the trade balance for fruit and vegetables improved, despite remain negative in terms of volume, thanks to the increase in exports which exceeded the decline in imports of these products.
This export momentum responds to the growing demand for organic, high-quality fruit and vegetables from European consumers, who are increasingly attentive to the origin and methods of food production, especially in the organic sector which includes products such as courgettes, rocket and watermelons
